Christina's Story
School
My biggest crush and fondest memory in Job Corps was a guy named John D. Torres who they called (Chino). We used to hang out at the park while we waited for the bus. He always told my mom that he was going to marry me.
At Job Corp the teacher that inspired me the most was Mr Quesada, he was my APL teacher and he was stern but fair.
The craziest memory was my Vocational Teacher every day he'd be drunk and play Ray Chares while we worked. He had this old tape player that you would have to rewind manually and set up from reel to reel. And it would play all day.
At Bel Air I was pretty much a loner. And when I did hang out with anyone I hung out with the weirdest people. Hanging out in the restrooms ditching and causing fights in the halls were my highschool highlights.
In high school I remember dating a guy named Gerardo Delgado they called...Expand for more
him "ALDO". he broke my heart. He was my first love.
Workplace
I am currently a Detention Officer at the Detention Center. I have a very interesting job. I have been at this job for about 13 years now. I enjoy my job very much. I think it's all about the kids we get as well as the reasons why. Alot of them are just going thru a phase while alot of them are actually at the beginning of the rest of their lives. Sadly we practically raise alot of them. They start getting into trouble at 11 and we see them thru all the years until they are too old to hold any longer, then we just send them to adult jail. Some actually recover and do good things for themselves an move on to become productive in life but some never make it out at all. I believe in what we do because sometimes it is us "Detention Officers" who really make the difference in their lives.
